Tyler specifically was supposed to be the new blood on the scene that inevitably Kendrick Lamar actually delivered on. I absolutely HATE that Tyler The Creator and Odd Future were considered "the future" of Hip-Hop for a few years. If you want some highlights check out Worldwide Choppers to get a feel for how well he collaborates with other artists, Imma Tell and Einstein are two of his hit classic songs, and for some newer stuff Am I A Psycho? is very good, well, most of the album All 6's and 7's is really damn good. It's also quite interesting that he has become one of the more successful independent artists-doing so before Macklemore and right at the beginning of the Internet Age-to date, with Strange Music featuring about a half dozen very talented artists. and Killer-which might as well be labeled as a concept album-amazingly unique song-writing, the likes of which no other rapper can compare.

He also has written some of the most interesting albums out there, stuff like K.O.D. He has an incredible ability to incorporate his own personal touch on just about every subject he approaches. Tech N9ne has consistently been one of the best Rappers out there.

Given that there's an entire legion of people who say "Eminem is the only rap I listen to" (for racist reasons, usually), I don't see how you can argue that he isn't overrated. Stan, Kim, White America and a few others are still really solid staples of hip-hop music, but I don't think his catalogue has turned out to be as "essential listening" as, say, Nas'. His songs that don't rely on edgy pop culture references are still solid, but that's only a handful of tracks. They're kind of stuck in the edgy, juvenile humor that, to his credit, dominated the late 90's. And upon revisiting, I don't think his older albums have aged terribly well. That's not to say he doesn't have the raw skill, but he's almost completely lost the ability to turn that into compelling music. Here's one of her more popular tracks.Įminem- Once upon a time he was probably in the conversation for best MC ever, but he's probably released more bad material than good at this point. This is one of my favorite tracks of his.Īzealia Banks- She's pretty popular, but I don't think her rapping is as appreciated as it should be. Nonetheless, I think he's really talented and does a great job of balancing dry, cynical humor with emotionally impactful material. Milo- I can understand why he's not more well-known because his style trends more toward spoken word than what's generally accepted in rap music and is probably more intellectual (I mean that in the least pretentious way possible) than the average person cares for. Granted, this is partially his fault for having released such a slow trickle of music over the last decade, but in terms of technical skill he's one of the best MC's I've ever listened to.ĭiabolic- I don't think he's especially great at making songs, but he can really put bars together. Tonedeff- I think he could have been a lot more popular than he's ultimately ended up being. If you are a fan of the true Slim Shady, please stand up and have your voice heard.
